Biography
Gethzi, an ordained Priest in the Church of South India (CSI), was involved in various youth and women’s ministries in the dioceses of Coimbatore and Madras. She undertook theological studies and training at the Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary (TTS), Madurai. She moved to Adelaide in 2005.
She completed her post-graduate and doctoral research in the field of Old Testament. She has been involved in teaching Introduction to the Old Testament and the Prophetic literature, whilst also having an interest in Biblical Hebrew, Biblical theology and contemporary, contextual theology.
Her passion for Biblical studies and contextual theology resulted in her Master’s thesis titled: Despair and Hope: A Dalit Reading of Selected Texts in the Book of Lamentations, and her doctoral thesis titled: The Expulsion of the Outcaste Women of the Land: Re-reading of Ezra 9-10 from a Dalit perspective.
She is also involved in hospital chaplaincy and contributes to the life of the church by serving in parishes, along with her husband Samson, who is also an ordained Priest. She says, “I seek to contribute to a world where everyone can enjoy the fullness of life that incorporates peace, harmony, justice, mutual respect and love; a life based on biblical values”.
