It is 9:00am and a group of weary souls enter the SBC building: students, teachers, staff and volunteers alike, each slowly finding their way to the Chapel to begin morning prayers at 9:15 sharp.
The leader opens: “The Lord be with you.”
In matching cadence, the people respond: “and also with you.”
And for the next 15 minutes, they pray for the forgiveness of sins and the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit; for the college and its community, the wider diocese and world at large, and for those who have particular needs and struggles. These are no small requests indeed, but they are prayed with the knowledge of the goodness of the God who can be called Father, who is faithful in listening to and answering prayers.
Concluding with the closing benediction, these weary few are reoriented, reorganised and revitalised, having been opened to the realities of the Spirit’s movements in the mundane. From 15 minutes alone they head to their daily work, energised by grace and filled with love, transforming the banality of learning, teaching and administration into the work of the divine.
Feel free to join us in prayer at 9:15am Tuesday to Thursday during semester, or join us for the College Eucharist on Thursdays at 12:30pm.
We are seeking volunteer leaders and readers for the morning prayer roster, contact Maria Harrison if you too would like to participate in, and be energised by the power of prayer. We also take prayer requests – please do email them through to Katrina Dal Lago.
